Yesterday, CNN decided that they won’t be attending the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Then, today, Donald Trump informed the world that he will not be attending the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.
The White House Correspondents’ Dinner is scheduled for on April 29th, 2017 and is supposed to be a celebration between journalists stationed at the White House, and the administration. It is generally televised and generates scholarships for gifted students in journalism programs across the country.
However, America is all too familiar with Donald Trump’s war on the media.
In spite of Trump’ grudge, announcing that he will not be attending this Correspondents’ Dinner is huge. The dinner is a tradition that dates back to the early 1900’s
Trump let the world know on Twitter:
‘I will not be attending the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner this year. Please wish everyone well and have a great evening!’
I will not be attending the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner this year. Please wish everyone well and have a great evening!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 25, 2017
Trump, of course, didn’t elaborate as to why he won’t attend the dinner. Again Trump is belittling the tradition of the President of the United States.
And when Trump stated, “wish everyone well,” it isn’t immediately clear to whom he is even speaking to. Only Trump knows.
