The current Age of Trump feels like it has already spanned decades. It’s hard to believe it has only been a few weeks.
During these dark times, levity has been scarce. However, Senator Bernie Sanders and CNN host Anderson Cooper recently found occasion to burst out laughing when our huckster elected leader said quite possibly the single most pathetic statement of his young presidency.
Sanders (I-VT) appeared on AC 360 on Monday, and the conversation turned, of course, to Donald Trump. They brought up the speech Trump gave at the Sunday meeting of the nation’s governors in Washington, D.C., where he said, referring to his plans to undo Obamacare, “We have come up with a solution that’s really, really I think very good. Now, I have to tell you, it’s an unbelievably complex subject. Nobody knew health care could be so complicated.” This statement, childlike in its directness and naivety, caused Sanders and Cooper to both lose it on air.
Sanders, who has been working on moving our country toward a single-payer healthcare system for his whole career in the Senate, asserted that he, by contrast, has “a clue.” Said Sanders, “Well some of us who were sitting on the health education committee, who went to meeting after meeting after meeting, who heard from dozens of people, who stayed up night after night trying to figure out this thing, year—we got a clue.” He added, When you provide health care in a nation of 300 million people, yeah, it is very, very complicated. And maybe now, maybe the president and some of the Republicans understand you can’t go beyond the rhetoric, ‘We’re going or repeal the Affordable Care Act, We’re going to repeal Obamacare and everything will be wonderful,’ a little bit more complicated than that.” Concluded Bernie, “Let’s get beyond rhetoric.” Are you terrified that we have a president who is so unqualified and incompetent?
