Obama has done a lot for us. But the truth is he is soon to be out of the Oval Office, replaced by a demagogue who got in on a whirlwind of lies, xenophobia, and fearmongering. So the fact is that as much as we might love and admire Obama, we have to act ourselves now if we want to protect our country.
That’s why just sitting back is no longer an option. And that’s why it is important to resist Trump at every step, as this article that has gone viral in progressive communities point out. There are effective ways to resist him, even if those don’t always occur to us as a typical part of the American imagination. If you consider yourself a progressive liberal and you haven’t already, read this article right away.
And now Obama has been declared “Most Admired Man of 2016” by a Gallup Poll. Pew reports “Americans are most likely to name President Barack Obama as the man they admire most in 2016. Twenty-two percent mentioned Obama in response to the open-ended question. President-elect Donald Trump was second at 15%. It is Obama’s ninth consecutive win.”
He was up against many people, but he still won. It’s pretty remarkable that in a country as turbulent and divided as we are right now, that many people can still agree that Obama is amazing. Of course it took Trump only 30 minutes to tweet, “Doing my best to disregard the many inflammatory President O statements and roadblocks.Thought it was going to be a smooth transition – NOT!”
And now the question we all must contend with is whether we too will be brave and sacrifice enough to stand up for vulnerable people and fight all that Trump stands for. So will you sit back and be comfortable…or will you stand up with the rest of Americans and take this grassroots call to action?
