On Wednesday, Melania Trump, wife of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, responded to media questions regarding her immigration to the United States by posting a legal document to her Twitter account, loosely detailing the legalities of the process she took.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has some very strong feelings about immigration and immigrants, so it’s only natural that his current wife, Melania, has come under scrutiny about her own immigration to the U.S. The New York Post posted a series of photos that would have placed her in the United States prior to when she obtained her first working visa.

The letter Melania Trump posted, from her Madison Avenue lawyer, doesn’t actually prove that she didn’t work in the U.S. without a working visa. But it does state that the reports made about her are “not supported by the facts.” According to Mrs. Trump’s lawyer, Michael J. Wildes:

‘Because Mrs. Trump did not enter the United States until August 27, 1996, the allegation that she participated in a photo shoot in 1995 is not only untrue, it is impossible.’

‘Finally, Mrs. Trump did not receive her green card through marriage. Rather in 2000, Mrs. Trump self-sponsored herself for a green card as a model of “extraordinary ability,” and on March 19, 2001, she was admitted to the United States as a lawful permanent resident. Based on this timeline, Mrs. Trump became eligible for citizenship in 2006, after five years of continuous permanent residence.’

This isn’t really evidence of anything. Much like the New York Times post and the media speculation, this is simply one of Melania Trump’s, no doubt, laughably expensive lawyers who wants you to take his word for it. Lawyers are, of course, known for their honesty, right?
