Secretary of Labor, Tom Perez, called-out the Trump transition team for illegally demanding the lists of government employees and their status.
According to CBS News Perez stated:
‘Those questions have no place in a transition. That is illegal. Will dedicated career people be targeted because they were doing the right work?’
These demands include a request from the Trump team to the Department of Energy requiring the names of employees working on international climate change accords and carbon reduction programs. Trump has repeatedly stated that “climate change” is a hoax perpetuated by the Chinese to keep American manufacturers from being competitive.
However, according to The Hill, The Department of Energy refused the request with department spokesman Eben Burnham-Snyder stating:
‘We will be forthcoming with all publicly-available information with the transition team. We will not be providing any individual names to the transition team.’
According to The Washington Post, Trump’s transition team backtracked on the request, saying the person making the request wasn’t authorized to do so.
According to The Washington Post, the team specifically asked for information about programs that “promote gender equality, such as ending gender-based violence, promoting women’s participation in economic and political spheres, entrepreneurship, etc.”
WaPo also reported that a State Department official told them:
‘It’s not clear to us what the intent is behind this request. The Trump team could be looking to advance gender issues and make it a priority — or you could look at it as a witch hunt.’
Reuters reported, that in an email sent from Trump’s transition team to the Statement Department asked for the identities of employees working in anti-extremism programs. The email says:
‘Please indicate names of people serving in those roles and status (political or career).’
