Trump has been infuriating the men and women who serve our country for months now. In his attempts to stand out from the crowd so that his awful post-election plans are viable, he has effectively alienated himself from a demographic that often does tend to vote Republican. He’s really shot himself in the foot.
Americans who are or have been employees of the U.S. Department of Defense or major branches of the military – the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard – have contributed far more money to Clinton’s campaign by a long shot. Between Trump and Clinton’s campaign, the candidates have been able to get $972,709 in contributions altogether. Here’s the shocking thing – Clinton’s contributions account for 80% of that! America’s military members have given her $771,471 in support, while Trump’s success with our military is all talk.
“People assume the military leans Republican, but I think that has fundamentally changed in the 21st century,” says a retired admiral. “Honestly, there’s not much enthusiasm for Clinton either, but veterans around me seem to have far less distaste for [Clinton] than Trump. Trump does not value veterans, and in fact, insults families of veterans who have died in combat.” True words!
